One of my students was hit by a car this morning in front of the school. It was still really dark and there isn't a good place for those students who walk to school to cross the road. I've had one of my students almost walk into my car before, so I guess it was only a matter of time for this to happen.
We got an update around 1 this afternoon saying that he is okay and very lucky. He doesn't have any broken bones and they don't think he has any internal bleeding or anything. He's just really sore. He isn't the type of person to let something keep him down -- he NEVER misses school. He's a straight A student and one of the kindest, most genuine and respectful teenagers I've ever met. I know I'm not supposed to have favorites, but he's definitely in my top 10 students that I love teaching.
Even though he's coming through this very well, please pray both for his speedy recovery and that this serves as a wake up call to the district and county. We need better lighting and a cross walk. This should not happen. It should not be dangerous for students to come to school.
UPDATE: My student is WONDERFUL and they are investigating the driver of the delivery truck that hit him. Apparently the driver was texting and/or eating at the time... and texting while driving was just made illegal in Georgia this summer, so that's a BIG no-no.
