Prayers Needed

Okay, y'all, the promised updates will be coming soon, but for now, I really need your prayers.

One of my students was hit by a car this morning in front of the school. It was still really dark and there isn't a good place for those students who walk to school to cross the road. I've had one of my students almost walk into my car before, so I guess it was only a matter of time for this to happen.

We got an update around 1 this afternoon saying that he is okay and very lucky. He doesn't have any broken bones and they don't think he has any internal bleeding or anything. He's just really sore. He isn't the type of person to let something keep him down -- he NEVER misses school. He's a straight A student and one of the kindest, most genuine and respectful teenagers I've ever met. I know I'm not supposed to have favorites, but he's definitely in my top 10 students that I love teaching.

Even though he's coming through this very well, please pray both for his speedy recovery and that this serves as a wake up call to the district and county. We need better lighting and a cross walk. This should not happen. It should not be dangerous for students to come to school.

UPDATE: My student is WONDERFUL and they are investigating the driver of the delivery truck that hit him. Apparently the driver was texting and/or eating at the time... and texting while driving was just made illegal in Georgia this summer, so that's a BIG no-no.

Tap, tap. Anyone still there?

Yes, I know it's been a while, but I can't even apologize for it. I have taken a much needed breather. I said "sorry, not gonna happen" to everything that wasn't absolutely necessary for several weeks, which unfortunately includes this blog. I love y'all, I pinky swear, but I have been so drained that I really needed this time to focus on me.

I have been overwhelmed with planning and teaching, plus planning a fundraiser and being initiated into an honor fraternity, plus keeping my long-distance relationship going and trying to keep my dog from killing herself accidentally.

The stories that go with that last sentence will be explained soon, I promise, but for right now I just wanted to check in. I haven't even been reading any blogs. I missed y'all and I promise I will be better at keeping up. Thank you to those of you who wanted to check on me to make sure I was ok. :)

But for right now, I am going to go back to grading papers on the sofa next to Mr. Preppy (tomorrow is a furlough day for teachers, so I don't have school... instead I took my preppy hiney to Atlanta to enjoy a three day weekend with my love), glass of Reisling in hand and Preppy Pup wedged in between us.
